My husband, Rex Webb, has been accepted into Physical Therapy School. WHOO HOO!! I am SO proud of him, as he has spent countless hours on applications and essays and other crap that he has to do for this process. Plus, PT schools usually only accept a class of 30-ish students, so spots are VERY competitive. We are still waiting on a few applications, but the school he has been accepted to is Tuoro University in southern Nevada. It is one of the few places in the country that has mountains AND palm trees. Cool, huh?
So anyway, Rex got in. YAY for him! Three years from this spring we will be officially "Dr. and Mrs. Webb." HIGHLY cool if you ask me. How many people are doctors by the time they are 25? Oh, my husband will be. Booyah.
We just found this out on Friday, and the reactions of our friends and family have been...umm...sometimes different than what I expected.
MY DAD
My dad: Tuoro?! What the heck kind of school is "Tuoro"?! Are you learning to be a bull fighter?
Rex: No, it's actually a really great school in Nevada.
My dad: Nevada?!? DUUUUUUUUUUUUDE. We are SO going elk hunting!!!
(they spent the next 30 minutes on the computer looking up Nevada hunting laws and planning their elk hunting trip).
HIS DAD
His Dad: Congratulations! Now you should start applying in-state. Nah, I'm just kidding. (listens to his wife chastise him in the background) Oh, I guess I'm not actually kidding...
Speaking of in-state, I have to include the reaction of Mrs. Homrich, a family friend of my parents who shares in Rex's mom's sentiment that everyone should stay in-state.
MRS. HOMRICH
Rex: So yeah, we'll be heading out to Nevada.
Mrs. Homrich: ...like...Nevada, Michigan?
Rex: Uhhh, no. The state. I don't think there is a Nevada, Michigan.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
HIS SISTER
Michelle: So, where in Nevada?
Rex: About twenty minutes from Las Vegas.
Michelle: Oh yeah. That is what I wanted to hear.
JOSH (REX'S TECHIE FRIEND)
Josh: Cool, buddy! Hold on...(taps something on his computer) Oh good! You get good phone coverage out there.
MY SISTER
Me: CARA! Rex got into physical therapy school!
Cara: Cool, where?
Me: Nevada.
Cara: (literally bursts into tears) You CAN'T go to Nevada!! I'll never see you!
Me: No, Cara, it will be fine! You will have so much fun coming to visit! We will live really close to Arizona, and I will take you to the Grand Canyon!
Cara: (still crying). Yeah, stupid Arizona. Where it's sunny all the time. If you move out there you are going to get SKIN CANCER and DIE!
Rex baaaaarely got a hug goodbye from her when we left to go back to Lansing. I think she is kind of mad at him right now.
Anyway, I thought some of these were kid of funny. They weren't all the "Congratulations" and "Good for you" that I was expecting, but they were still fun. I am SO proud of my awesome husband, and we can't wait for life's next adventure!
I don't like you moving to Nevada but I do like that Rex got into PT school! Is it bad to be happy and sad? Oh and it's almost your birthday!!! Technically is 14 hours away, YAY!!!
